Comparing Effectiveness of Family Planning Methods
http://www.fhi.org/en/RH/Pubs/servdelivery/index.htm
Family Health International (FHI) is pleased to announce a new publication: Comparing Effectiveness of Family Planning Methods.
In order to make informed contraceptive choices, clients require an accurate understanding of pregnancy risks. As a result of an earlier USAID-supported study by FHI showing that a simplified counseling chart can improve women's understanding of contraceptive effectiveness better than more complex tools can, a panel composed of the World Health Organization, USAID, the INFO Project at JHU/CCP, EngenderHealth, FHI, and other experts drafted this simplified chart, which presents contraceptive methods on a continuum of effectiveness. The contraceptive effectiveness chart is available on the FHI website in English, Spanish, and French and also appears on the back of The Global Handbook for Family Planning Providers, published in 2007 by the WHO, USAID and the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health, and was used in the 19th edition of Contraceptive Technology.
To order a print copy of the chart (laminated, 8.5 x 11 in.), please send an email to publications@fhi.org .
Guidelines for Male Sexual & Reproductive Health Services
These guidelines were developed by the Region II Male Involvement Advisory Committee as a tool for family planning providers. The guidelines are intended to be comprehensive and to include all services that could be provided in the family planning clinical setting. The document can be used as a helpful resource in the development of clinical services for male clients.
Blueprint for Male Involvement
The Center for Health Training (CHT) developed this blueprint to be a useful tool in efforts to examine the importance, benefits and challenges of involving young men in family planning and reproductive health. It is designed to examine the process of formulating an outline or plan of action for developing or expanding male involvement initiatives.
Men's Reproductive Health Training Curriculum
EngenderHealth has developed a men's reproductive health training curriculum to train service providers who work with men. The curriculum is based on EngenderHealth's Men's Reproductive Health Services Model and contains modules on each of the topics outlined in the model. This curriculum, the first of its kind, provides reproductive health professionals with a step-by-step guide for designing and delivering services in a variety of contexts.
MARS Presentation on Communicating with Men
This Power Point presentation was created by the MARS program and delivered at the 2006 Annual FPMTC Male Health Conference and Training in Denver, CO and examines how to effectively communicate with male clients. The MARS (Male Advocates for Responsible Sexuality) mission is to support men in taking a responsible role in promoting equality and cooperation in relationships, pregnancy and infection prevention, and overcoming stereotypical gender roles.
The Wise Guys Program
This teen pregnancy prevention program for males provides educators with curricula to engage young males in making healthy decisions. The website also has valuable information for students and parents.
