Synopsis and Comments: Adolescent
males are at risk with significant health care needs. There
are clear differences, as compared to girls, in the type and
frequency of problems affecting them and in their health seeking
behaviors. Schools and school-based health centers, family
planning clinics, and sexually transmitted infection clinics
are all places available to adolescent males who seek care
and have some successes at providing gender specific care.
Detention centers and the emergency departments where some
adolescent males can be found offer additional opportunities
to address health issues of young men.
